Hello All

I have a Vortex Bell Box and I would like to make a jig to test it. I have the technical info on the box.

I have a 12V/500 mA power supply.

If I connect, the Positive of the 12V supply to Hold + on the Box
and, negative of supply to Hold - on the Box, will the alarm sound if I connect the negative of the power supply to TRG - ?

Like wise will the strobe light up if I connect the negative of the power supply to STB - on the Box?

Any advice would be much appreciated

My alarm system has a Bell Box already fitted and is OK, but is mounted on the side of the house and is not readily visible to any would be burglars. A couple of years ago I mounted another Vortex Box on the front of the house. Due to family problems, it was never connected.

I am experienced in electronics and I have connected sounders within the house to go off when the alarm is activated, and these are working perfectly. I plan to operate the second Vortex Box in a similar manner.

I have constructed a jig to test the Bell Box.

When I connected the jig to the Bell Box I found that the alarm went off when when the 12v Power Supply was switched ON. Switching ON or OFF the TRG neg voltage had absolutely no effect. The external battery in the Box had already been disconnected.

I presume the problem lies with Jumper selection or Tamper settings.

Basically I want to contol the operation of the Bell Box externally without any direct connection to the Alarm Panel.

Any information would be much appreciated. Specifically, any information as to how the Tamper return should be connected would be most welcome.

Best regards,

Jimmy

The tamper return is a return signal to the panel. Normally this signal is pulled to ground (at the bell box) when the tamper circuits are closed on the bell box.

Your theory of operation is correct. However, when supplying power to the bellbox, the battery needs to be connected and tampers closed.

Some SAB units allow for power to be applied and no siren activation to take place (engineering mode) which is then exited by a single -Ve trig signal. It sounds like your SAB does not have this and is triggering immediately on power connection because tampers in the box are open.
