Can anyone help? My X reg 1.4 VW Golf bought last May (about 72K miles) has been fine until the last month or so. About 6 weeks ago it started to take a couple of attempts to fire up and then on one occasion wouldn't fire at all. I got a jump start and it was fine after a bit of a run. I then did two 440 mile trips within 3 weeks with no problems, howver, this morning on trying to start, there's nothing at all - no lights, noise, anything. Usual usage is a few short (<10 miles) trips per week. Don't know where to start and would really appreciate some advice. thanks

from what you describe it sounds like the battery has had it.
most motor factors will confirm this for you if you take it in.
alternatively if you have a volt meter you can check it yourself
batteries will generally last between 4 and 5 years depending on useage.

Thank you very much for your reply - I feel a bit daft as it turns out I hadn't shut the back door properly and so the battery drained - duh! Thanks for nudging me in the right direction - after a jump start it was fine!
