VW Passat Indicators Not Flashing

Hi all,

I have a 1999 Passat 20v Sport and the indicators will only work properly sometimes. Most of the time they won't flash, like if the flasher unit is no good.
I'm not sure if it is the flasher unit because I think they wouldn't work full stop. Infact I'm not sure if cars have flasher units now anyway.
Someone told me it could be the hazard light switch. Does anyone know what might be the problem?

Sounds very much like a flasher unit fault and sometimes they do go intermittent. Best to get a replacement, most places will let you test it and return it if it's not the unit that's at fault. I always carry spares with the fuzes and bulbs. I take it they do come on but just don't flash? Because if they're not coming on at all that could be the stalk that's at fault.

Yea they do come on, but just fail to flash, sometimes. I have just found out the relay is behind the hazard switch, so I will have a go at replacing it.
Strangely enough, since I posted this, they have worked perfectly.

The hazard light switch is the relay.
