Has anyone here come across what the Americans refer to as a Washing Machine Overflow Pan? These are installed beneath a washing machine and plumbed in to the drain so that in the event of a washing machine flood the water goes down the drain and not under your shiny new laminate kitchen floor.

Nice try  but all the shower trays I've seen are too small to take a standard size washer, most of them are also too deep. I've also got concerns about a shower tray taking the weight of a washing machine with full load and water which has a tumble drier (also with load) parked on top - think that will work out to a bit more than the average, or even a large, adult.

In the USA they install these in many buildings partly because they have a lot of timber frame construction. They tend to cost between $20 and $80 (so cheaper than a shower tray, too)
