Walk in wardrobe?

I am (still) doing up our spare room. There was a door leading up to the attic which I have now removed. I have also removed the stairs leading to the attic and have reinstated a loft hatch and ladder.

The extra space I have gained by doing this is causing me a headache. I want to make a sort of walk in wardrobe. I am stuck on how best to use the space. I have attached some images of the area.

My main 2 problems are:

1. Remove the wall seperating the newly cleared area and it would become built in wardrobes?

2. Keep the wall and come up with a clever way to make use of the space.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated

Looks too narrow to me to be a useful walkin wardrobe.

Perhaps knock the wall down and get some nice fitted wardrobes put in the space.

Thanks Andy. Once you go in and turn left it is 900mm wide and 520mm deep before you reach the wall. The wall inside the area is 1200mm high until it levels out. So I could possibly have a rail across low down and then have some shelving on rails which are housed further back but have handles to pull then over the rails?

I was trying to exhaust all avenues before pulling the wall down as I spent ages getting the rad on the stud wall and plumbing it in. :)

Paint the door and put another low door behind the radiator, so you have a full height wardrobe and a low level wardrobe. Its better then knocking it all out and re-fitting a tailor made wardrobe.

Hi Frank, Sorry I am not completely with you on that one. There isn't a plan to have a door, so it will be an open wardrobe. And do you mean make a small cupboard in the recess behind the rad? I will do a cross section drawing with dimensions which may help explain it better.

Here is a rough sketch of the cross section. This is my most favourable option at the moment.

Couple of things to note: lowering the ceiling above the stairs by a couple of inches.. yes its less than 2m but still more than the 1.9m clearance further down the stairs. The step will have a drawer for storage too.

Let me know your thoughts.

Hadn't crossed my mind to be honest! Will probably stick with the storage route though!

By the way... What do you guys think of lowering the ceiling height over the stairs slightly (3 inch)? It is lower still towards the bottom and that is typical of the original building.
