Hi All

I am not a builder but anticipate building my own extension once my minor mods are passed.

This morning I stopped by a building site (home extension) to see the the two walls being built. The cavity gap starts at 75mm from one side and midway its over 100mm. Is this acceptable. Surely building regs inspector is going to inspect it.

The builders don't seem to know and care whether the wall is straight, level and plum. I think the owner has taken a big risk in employing cheap builder therefore a bodge.

What is the correct gap. I am sure most of the guys on this wonderful forum would know.

A cavity is supposed to be uniformal, usually 100mm part filled or full filled with insulation.

I presume that the wall your talking about is supposed to be straight and that there are no projecting courses etc? Are they using brick or natural stone? Do they look like they've put in at least a 600mm width concrete strip footing at least?

Hi "peca"

The foundations appear about right width and I assume they are correct depth. Building regs must have checked them. They are using bricks outside and breeze blocks inside. There is no uniformity. They are building as fast as they can. At the speed are going at the walls willl be up by this weekend. I am curious.
