Wall hung sink support

Hoping for some advice please.

I am replacing a pedestal sink with a wall hung sink, attaching it to a internal hollow plasterboard wall. I have read many posts about the necessity to add some horizontal noggins behind the plasterboard.

My challenge is that my wall is only 50 cm wide and there are no vertical battens other than on the outer edges of the wall. Behind the wall is another plasterboard wall in another room. The 2 plasterboard walls are sandwiched between a cardboard honeycomb structure. Further sight complication is there are 2 electric cables running up the right hand side wall batten.

I have removed an area of plaster approx 50 cm x 30 cm and am thinking about either:

1) Making a wooden frame structure (horizontal and vertical battens) that I can attach to the side wall vertical battens

2) Using one big piece of wood the size of the void in the wall and skew screw into the side wall vertical battens

Is there a better way to achieve what I need, i.e. wooden vertical battens to attach the wall hung sink to?

To be honest the chances of hanging a basin on paramount wall board successfully are very slim.

The two vertical timbers are panel edge strips and aren't really substantial enough to hold the kind of loads that the basin will exert if, for example, somebody leans on the front edge of the basin.

If the two cables weren't in the way then side screwing into the adjacent panel might help to spread the load and additional timber screwed to the 'studs' with a ply panel across might help but, with the cables obstructing the right hand side this is going to prove tricky!

Is it a full sized basin or a shallow cloakroom type?

It's a cloakroom basin, measuring 45 cm wide, 37 cm deep (out from the wall).

In that case you may want to build out the existing boxing (containing the H&C feeds and waste) otherwise:

a) It's going to be difficult to get a secure mount on the wall
b) The pipework is going to look odd having to step back to pick up the new basin tap and waste positions.

Glue a ply panel to the reverse side of the plasterboard within the opening (the other rooms plasterboard) using gbpro or gripfill and then keep adding panels of ply to that to make a "sandwiched" block of ply within the wall... Each additional layer of ply can be screwed to the previous one, with the first being glued. This will spread the load and give you plenty of "meat" to screw the fisher bolts into.

I have attached 2x2 batons to the inner side vertical frame as these appear to be very solid. I then cut a piece of ply to fit over the whole gap and will attach to my new side batons.

I had intended inserting a bolt through the rear of my ply fascia panel to mount the sink, but I think your idea of filling the gap with additional timber sounds better, then I can screw in the double ended screw/bolt into front side of the p!y, right through the ply sandwich.
