Hi all,
I am planning on making wall panelling for my hallway. I have worked out the sizes and the number of panels etc and I have decided to make them out of pine. Some of the panels will be circa 2.4m tall and the rails will be 95mm.
My plan was (is still maybe) to basically build the rails as a separate component and then fix the panels to the back. Obviously the easiest thingh would be to just screw the rails to the back panel but I am concerned the joints will open up over time. The choices I have narrowed it down to are:-
1. The easiest - just screw the rails to full sheets of pine from the back so no fixings are seen. I have some concerns with this though
2. Biscuit jointing - create the 'ladder' frame and join the rails with my biscuit jointer
3. Dowels - same as 2 but using dowels instead
4. Lap Joints - same as 2 but lap all the joints of the rails
I was just wondering what advice experienced joiners / carpenters might have in terms of the best approach?
Thanks
D
