Would appreciate some help/advice please.
Am to retile bathroom walls from floor to ceiling. Have removed existing tiles. Two walls are solid (plastered) and two are studs.
Have had to replace some plasterboard where tiles would not come off easily. Elsewhere most tiles have come away quite well. On the solid walls, in places, a little of the previous finishing plaster has come away. On the stud walls, in places, a little of the paper backing has been damaged.
On the solid walls there is a litte old paint in places (the walls must have been part tiled at some point).
I am removing old tile adhesive where it comes away easily. All walls are basically fairly straight and in good condition I would say (1970's house).
My query is 'What do I need to do before retiling?'
A plasterer friend has said the walls are fine, just prime and then tile, filling any holes in the plaster with tile adhesive. Priming will sort out the damaged paper too.
Is this good advice?
What is the best primer to use? I think I know that PVA is a no-no. A Topps DVD suggests Bal-Prime APD but someone in Topps says this is overkill and just use their basic primer.
Would be most grateful for any advice.
Many thanks in advance
