I have stripped a room of all its wallpaper and the paint underneath has come away with it. I now have four walls with mainly bare plaster which is in good condition. Should I paint the walls to seal it prior to laying new wallpaper?

Cheers, Doug.

Best thing these days is a coat of zinsser gardz, if you dont want to do that it needs a paste size for which the instructions are on the back of the packet

I do not think you will achieve a professional finish on the walls you describe unless you line them with at least 1000 grade lining paper, or preferably Wallrock.

Wallrock ?

What is it and why use it - I assume it is even better than lining paper at hiding the rough stuff ?
Is it hard to use ?
I am used to using 1000 and 1200 lining paper if that helps give you some idea of what I am familiar with.

wallrock is a paste the wall type product, Just roller on the Glue and stick up the paper. It comes in uber wide rolls 1m across so quicker for me anyway hehe. It doesnt stretch/shrink like lining paper can so less gaps (again in my case) but where I has gaps was able to fill and sand and it looks gucci with now join lines visible.

Ok, thanks for that - I guess it must be worth a try then..
Can't say that i've ever had big problems with lining paper shrinking but having never tried a 'paste-the-wall' product I owe it to myself to give it a go !
