Hi guys

Just had my walls skimmed a few months ago. Getting ready to paint them now.

Should I first put on lining paper and then paint? To ensure no cracks appear in the paint?

Or

Paint directly onto the skimmed walls? I have been told a coat of PVA glue before painting helps with any potential cracks?

Thanks.

Do not put pva on the walls! It will be like trying to paint teflon if you do!

Paint the walls with diluted coat first (mist coat)of emulsion then two top coats, no pva.

Loads of posts about the problems pva will cause on here.

Oh did I mention not to put pva on the walls?

What about lining paper first?

As said there should not be cracking if done well.
Just paint, should there be any problems you can always line at the next decoration.
The main draw back with lining is should the paper get damaged by moving furniture or from pets etc it's more of a faff to repair than plain plaster.

It is only really required to cover poor plaster surfaces.
