Want to put integrated microwave into brand new kitchen cabinets

Hi all,

My gf and I just bought a new build flat that has a fancy Masterclass Kitchens kitchen with built-in appliances.

Unfortunately there’s very little counter space and we also just threw out our old microwave, so I’m thinking of putting in a new integrated microwave in the cabinet above the oven, for a result kinda like this…

Problem is, the cabinet door for the cupboard above would need to be cut down to about half the size. Could a kitchen fitter professional come in and do a good job of this or would I need to get a new door straight from the manufacturer?

I’m a bit concerned this is a big job and could end up being expensive. Another resident in the block had the same idea except chucked a basic standalone microwave into his cupboard. Not convinced that’s safe though!

You'll probably need a new door. Many doors are vinyl wrapped MDF and simply cannot be cut down and made good. Most kitchen manufacturers offer blanking panels to fit above integrated coffee makers and microwaves, so it may be worth contacting the kitchen manufacturer to enquire about this

I've just sat my old microwave in a cupboard on the shelf, and keep the door, no chopping and it looks tidy... You could have kept your old one.

You could have kept your old one.

We threw it out cause it was rusted all over.

Many microwaves are available with a built in kit, they are standard microwaves but have a surround kit to hide any gaps.You will need a new door or panels to adjust the gaps above or below microwave.It’s possible to cut the top off a high level door as the top won’t be visible but not ideal solution.It may help to shuffle around existing doors and shelf position to get ideal height for the microwave.
