Yet another worry with my boiler. Had PCB replaced 7 months ago, stated at time I had cold water leak, 1st engineer said as well as replacing PCB (had no display on panel) he would order heat plate exchanger. 2nd engineer who came to carry out repair said it wasn't needed. Don't know if it's connected but a few days ago i noticed water under freezer, thought maybe it was defrosting! Came home today and my youngest son said there was water on kitchen floor, opened up cupboard round boiler pipes and lots of water there, obviously by stains/dampness of wood has been going on a while.Warm, almost hot, water is gathering under the boiler then dripping down. Am on my own, boiler is working ok, no error codes and pressure fine. Help please. Thanks for reading.

You say 1st and 2nd engineers!

Why? Are you on a maintenance contract?

Tony

No, it was a British Gas on call assistance one off repair....initial problem occurred on 30th December, couldn't get anyone local to come out or had a pcb in stock on new years eve, as it was BG totally messed up, was without hot water/heating for nearly 2 weeks over the freezing/snow spell before they mended it!

Do they give any kind of guarantee?

I expect its only for the actual repair they did though.

I presume you chose not to take up their offer of insurance cover?

With an unreliable boiler model like yours that would have been a good idea!

I expect we had a PCB in stock on the 30th December but you did not call us then!

Call ****ish gas back and tell them you are unhappy with their repair and the fact they didn't replace the plate heat exchanger as promised, this could be causing your leak now. Do not pay them another penny for their shoddy workmanship!

Thank you so much for replying, im neurotic about this boiler as it is, especially after 2 major repairs (it's now 5 years old) and reading reviews etc online.
Have moved freezer out, floor very wet so has been going on a while, have dried up around the boiler pipes and at the mo no drips or water there. Maybe only happens when i run hot water?
Would the plate heat exchanger cause this type of leak? I also read a blocked condensor pipe(?) maybe could, not sure if im barking up the wrong tree here tho.
Couldnt really afford the contract , now I really wish I had.
Or maybe time for a new boiler?
Thanks again, Helen

More likely the red seal gone on the main HE/sump and it is condensate leaking out.

The only proper answer with any Ideal boiler is to pay for an Ideal repair/service contract.

They made them, let them fix them at a loss.

Is that a big repair job?
And will it only leak if im running hot water?
Can i still safely use it?

I cannot guarantee this is where it is leaking from without being there to inspect it.

Ideal charge £299 to come out and fix whatever is wrong with it and guarantee it for 12 months.

The water leak was a seperate fault to the PCB so 2nd engineer correct. 1 repair for 1 fee. If the water leak had caused the PCB to die then the leak should have been fixed to but the plate heat ex cant leak onto the pcb on ideals.

I would imagine its leaking from the oring seals between the plate heat ex and the hydroblocks. Quiet a common fault on ideals ive seen and easy to fix, just requires 4 new orings and 60mins or so.

ask anyone who comes to visit to chck the aav, this took the control panel and pcb out in the first place probably

If only leaking when on it could be the flue manifold gasket leaking. Top right of hex usually runs down inner combustion cover and down through wiring harness onto pcb electrics.

What was the problem in the end? I have same problem with my Ideal Isar HE24 - leaking hot water from under the heat exchanger. The Heat Exchanger itself looks in good nick but there is water sitting in the tray beneath it which over time fills up and drips down out of the bottom of the boiler. I've alreay had 2 separate leaks fixed in the last 6 months or so (new diverter valve, heat exchanger and o-ring set) so I'm losing patience with it! Any thoughts on what it could be would be appreciated!
