Hi new here what are our rights on a usedcar purchased less than 3 weeks ago cost £2500 +part exchange that the gearbox has failed on it is covered by a three month warranty up to £500 also the brakes need replacing soon, it came with full mot and full servive history ,obviosly the car can't be returned as its 30 miles away spoken to the dealer and he says get in touch with the warranty people the car has been in a local garage and they quoted £1000 pounds for the work trading standards say the sale of goods act takes precedent over the warranty the person who owns the car is quite happy for a repair but who pays the difference should they pay or is it 50/50 with the garage i would imagine the warranty people will need to look would they be better to reject the car if they can this all takes time anyone been in a similar position who could offer advice thanks

follow the advice from the trades peeps, iirc the sale of goods act(28 day ruling will come in to play)thus making the dealer pay full ammount of the fix needed, phone them up again DONT HESITATE you dont have much time.

yes, warranty has nothing to do with it, it's the sale of goods act, needs fixed by the garage that sold you it for no cost to you. don't delay or back down, get trading standards involved if yoiu need to.

Any probs and write a letter to the garage, give a copy to trading standards then you have a record of what you said when to cover yourself..

Thanks for the reply's gone down the sale of goods route sent letter by recorded delivery kept copies for selves and trading standards now just have to wait for reply.
