Hey all

Came home from work and my wife informed me that during the night, for what ever reason the fuse box had tripped for all kitchen sockets in the middle of the night.

Flicked back on - thought nothing of it

went to use Washer [a servis M6006 1600rpm] but its U/S.

It has power, ie the lights come on, set the cycle, close the door, click the on button on, and the door locks. It sounds as if it will be about to start, but then just stops and a low dull buzz comes from it and continues to buzz until we kill the power. The lights on the front all light up bar one of them. does it on any given cycle.

Thinking 'oh great more expense' as we all do at the minute, We went to put the Dish washer on [a Hotpoint Aquarius SDW50] and again, turned it on, sounded as it always does for about 5 seconds, but then it just stops, gives and audible 1 second beep, then again, then again and then sounds as if it is pumping out any water, then lights up the Fast and dry cycle light and the prewash light together which flash until you turn it off.

Doesn't take a genius to work out that its obviously come about since the fuse tripped, but i don't have a clue what to do. They are both out of warranty.

Both are plumbed in to the same point, water checked and is free and flowing, both are plugged in to same power socket but thats ok because there is power getting to the machines [would explain why they both have gone US together]

Any help or thoughts would be seriously appreciated

Thanks in advance

Chas

ok, checked the water supply taps and they weren't turned on fully [pesky children]

turned them on and the dishwasher is operating as normal again

so, could it be the Washing machine that caused the fuse trip?could there be something wrong with it? what would cause the fuse to blow?

The taps and the dishwasher could just a conincidence? or perhaps if the taps weren''t turnd on properly, maybe this has caused the machine a problem resulting in something breaking. but what?

come on, anyone help please

bump!!!

Someone at work suggested the motor bushes on the washing machine? anyone electrically minded have a comment?

What do you mean by"the fuse tripped", do you mean the fuse in the plug blew, or the fuse in the consumer unit blew or the mcb or rcd in the consumer unit tripped, either way I would be surprised if the brushes were the cause.

well, i'm not sue what a consumer unit is to be honest, i mean the fuse thing on the wall, it has different switches in for different rooms and different appliances. Not the Plug fuse, there's power getting to the machine.

I had the lid off the machine, the belt is intact, the circuit board appears in order, all the earths are attached, the wires are all connected, there doesn't appear to be any leakage of anything, the drum takes in water, it just doesn't spin hence it doesnt pump, can only think it is the motor itself. it spins freely enough but just wont spin itself.

It hums away nicely, the circuit board clicks as if it is trying to get it to do stuff, but to no avail.

THink i've come to my own conclusion it is the motor?
