I just bought a used whirpool combination washer and dryer. I just installed everything and turned it on for the first time. The water is filling from the bottom up, every other washer I've seen pours from the top. Are there some washers that fill from the bottom? If not where would I look to find the problem?

As it's a USA machine I can only guess that it's a European type design.
If it is a front loader with a detergent drawer near the top then the water runs into the outer tub on a side entry. The water then falls to the bottom of the tub and rises through the inner drum.
