how can you tell if your thermostat or element has broken ? and does it apply to running of combi boiler aswell!

the clothes keep shrinking on a 40 wash and the water comes from the boiler already hot so i dont know if the thermostat is broken and it is washing them hotter because its not putting the right temp in

wouldnt think it would hot fill on a 40 wash

are the hoses fitted the right way round

causes the same prob

hoses are right i havent touch them , if the themostat is broken what are the symtoms

if its open curcit cold water
if closed it will boil

so would it wash with boiling water or cold depending how its broken , and would the cycle not start or skip

depending on your washing machine it will either skip the heat up part or just continue to boil if it just keeps boiling or skips the heat up part its the thermostat (if its on hot+cold water fill it wont mix the water correctly and will get too hot and shrink your clothes) one way to test it is take off the hot water inlet hose and see if it fills with cold water then see if it heats the water up or gets stuck that will tell you if the thermostat sensor is at fault)
