The impellor should exhibit magnetic resistance about every 1/4 revolution when turned by hand. If it turns freely without magnetic resistance or has any noticeable up/down slack then your pump is history. You could try to bench test it & see how it runs. However this isn't always a 100% conformation that the pump is ok because it isn't running loaded. Other things to check...blocked/kinked drain hose or plumbing issue. A new pump costs around £60.

got the pump tested its fine but now ive got another problem.
warning light coming on. water tap closed. the water tap is open (its a could fill) you can hear the water come in briefly when turning it on. and then the waning light comes on. the pipe to the washer is fine no kinks. runs out freely when not conected to the washer.
Who said it was a Hotpoint?
Providing you checked everything on the supply side, the pump is good & the machine still doesn't take in water...then you either have a defective fill valve, blocked inline filters, wiring problem, or your pcb took early retirement.
