washer will finish cycle at rinse but won't start cycle

I have an Amana washer, model LWA05AW. Approximately 8 yo. Washed a small load, on cold/cold. Went to wash another load and won't start. Can hear a very quiet humming as though something is happening. Will fill and finish cycle if advance knob to rinse cycle. Does this on each setting type. Any suggestions? Thanks
