Washing Line Spike

Hi,
I have just moved house and got myself a washing line spike from Argos (for my rotart lashing line), thing is, I am having problems getting it into the ground! I am using a club hammer and a piece of wood between the club hammer and the spike, but its just not moving! It is a fair way down, can I just cut a couple of inches off the bottom ( I guess it would be better to cut off the bottom rather than the top?)

Why not dig a hole, fill with PostFix, insert spike, pour on water and wait for it to dry.

Job done.

And if your putting it into a lawn, have it sunk slightly below grass level so you can run the mower over the top.
