Hi all

I have an Indesit 'MyTime' washer, about 8 years old, and it's always had trouble with uneven loads, moreso than any previous washer. I usually avoid putting one or two heavy items in it on their own as I know it won't manage to balance them so that it can spin, I even put a big towel in with the bath mats each time. A new problem has arisen however in that today when when my mum washed one fleece blanket and a couple of other items the machine was making a terrible banging noise whilst trying to balance the load on a spin cycle. It sounded like the drum banging against the door/seal. Luckily it eventually DID spin successfully, but I wanted to know if this a sign that something needs fixing.

Cheers

If you open the front door and grip the outer drum ( where the door seal is attached ) then grip the inner drum and see if, when you try to move it up and down, there is any play between the 2 it may be the drum bearings have gone. But I would suspect that it was just the drum assy slapping against some other internal componant, You could take the top off the machine and check various things but it just sounds like the way you are using it is the problem. Fleece blankets absorb a hell of a lot of water which will worsen the problem. If it worries you when you wash items like that then stop the cycle before it goes into spin mode leave it for a couple of hours or better overnight and let gravity drain a lot of the water from that sort of article. When you start up again the drain pump will eject the excess water before the machine starts spin mode.

Ours has done similar twice. The first time the drum was banging against the side. The problem was one the dampers had become detached. Put back in place with cable ties and it has been fine for years. Second time I assumed it was the same but it was much simpler. The concrete weight on the drum had come loose. It was sliding on the bolts a few mm and banging. Took off the lid and tightened them up and all was good
