My neighbor is a 92 year old women who lives alone. Her washing machine was leaking when she would do her wash, because the drain hose installed was too short to fit into the wall properly, and then it was duct taped.. so water was pouring from there at the drain cycle. My husband could only find 1 type of replacement hose, it fits into the wall properly and has stopped the water problem, BUT it was too short in length to run through the appropriate opening in the back of the washing machine. He removed the access panel and put it straight in that way, so the access panel is now exposed. Is that safe??! It seems if there was a panel, its meant to be there.. Another thing, now that that was done, the machine seems excessively loud during the wash cycle, when it wasn't before. Any ideas??
any help is greatly appreciated!

Not a good idea to route the drain hose through the back panel, it could get fouled in the moving parts...(belt, pulley, motor). You will hear more noise with the panel removed. You should be able to get a longer universal hose. Check ebay there are plenty of spares for sale.

As zipper says, should be able to get longer hose.
Failing that connect 2 hoses together with a short length of copper pipe held in place with 2 jubilee clips ensuring there are no leaks.
