Not sure if this is best in appliances or plumbing :
We have just had a new machine delivered today due to the last one being written off with collapsed drum - it's an integrated machine (Zanussi ZWI2125).
The waste plumbing for the w/m that was put in when the kitchen was done consists of a down pipe, which is just to the side of the machine, which goes down into a U-bend, and then a gradual fall, around a right angle in the corner of the kitchen, and down to the waste pipe right under neath the sink unit - a few inches above floor level.
The old machines waste pipe was hooked into the downpipe just with the use of the plastic U-clip thing that you get with the machine, so we have tried to do the same with the new one.
However when the machine starts to drain the water bubbles up out of the top of the pipe - despite there being well in excess of the 30cm of the machines waste hose recommended in the manual being inserted in the pipe. Obviously there is no seal as such although I guess the air gap helps the draining also?
It is as if the outward flow on the new super efficient machine is too much for the pipe to carry it away quickly enough! Or perhaps the old one had got "sludgy" over time at the same rate as the rest of the plumbing so the flow was restricted a bit.
One main difference between old and new machine is that the waste exits at the top of the new one, and exited at the bottom on the old one, so I guess the pressue might be a little bit more as it had to go uphill a bit more on the old.
We haven't used the machine for 4 weeks because we had to wait for deliver of new model - would that have caused whats in the pipes to solidify a bit?
Just wondering what we can do from here - the plumbing is all tucked behing cabinets so not ideal to get to. Is it worth just trying to rod / unblock? Maybe some sort of chemical unblocker?
Is there something we can connect to end of the hose and pipe to form a seal?
Or should we perhaps extend the pipe out of the machine round and straight into the u-bend under the sink?
