Washing Machine Drum Replacement

The washing machine in my rental property was making a lot of noise, so as we have accidental cover for it, the tenants called the engineer.
All is good and he's going to replace the drum.
I was just interested to know what could cause the drum needing to be replace in the first place?
It's only a couple of years old.

Because modern goods aren't made like they used to be. Highly likely the bearing has failed and most machines these days are built with it sealed within the drum assembly meaning you can't just change the bearing.

Possibly yes but how could you prove that. Bearings can fail in a short time though if not perfectly made or installed

Nothing to prove. It was just out of interest.
Machine is covered, so all good but the previous old machine also died due to bearings.
It's not important. Was more for interest sake.

No overloading is a myth, unbalanced loads might be the cause if done regularly but the user would soon get frustrated with having to stop & unload & rebalance every time. You have probably just been unlucky.

OK, thanks folks.
On a different note, they also said that there were brown marks left on the clothes after each wash.
I suggested cleaning the seal in all areas but they say that they do.
