Washing machine install - y-piece query?

Hi

I am fitting a washing machine in my house a new one, but it is cold fill only. Can I just cut the old hot washing machine valve off and fit a cap end?

What is a y-piece? I have heard they can be used for cold fill only - what is the advantage of them over just doing what I suggested?

A Y Piece is used to connect a washing machine with two inlets to a single supply (usually cold)

You just need to connect a single feed to your machine from the cold supply and it is then recommended to blank off the hot supply.
