Our old washing machine died last week - we've replaced it with a Beko WM5120, which seems to have good reviews and cost less than £200. It has a delayed-start feature, to allow it to be used overnight. We use an Economy 7 tariff (for a wet storage heating system), so it would make sense to run the machine overnight - 4p per unit instead of 14p. Or would it?

I remember many years ago when I was a poor stoodent, we nearly had a fire when our machine decided to heat a dry drum. I'll never forget it. And I'm worried about a flood. What if something jams, or a pipe bursts?

What do you people think? Would you run a washing machine overnight?

I do all my washing overnight.

Unless you are going to stand next to the machine all the time it is running how would you know it had gone faulty and flooded the place etc, etc.
