Washing Machine Repair Men - what make do you own?

As my Indesit Washer Dryer has lasted for only 2.5yrs (!) and was pants anyway, I am investing in a new washing machine and a separate tumble dryer (learning from my mistakes).

What make would I be best off buying? I realise you get what you pay for but my budget is limited to under £350 for the washer and £200 for the tumble dryer.

Incidentally, is 2.5yrs a reasonable amount of time for a washer dryer to last before being written off as too expensive to fix or should I be complaining bitterly and loudly to Comet/Indesit?

Buy a miele, they're good, if somewhat expensive, you could try an AEG in my experience they seem quite good (ours has been used at least once a day for the past 4 years without any problems). WRT to a reasonable amount of time, that is difficult, you could argue, perhaps successfully that 2.,5 years is not a resonable amount of time for this kind of appliance to last. I managed to argue this with Whirlpool (dishwasher) they caved in eventually, then again, the replacement dishwasher from whirlpool is still rubbish.

Miele would cost about twice your budget. Look for a german made Bosch, you should be able to get one around your budget. Independant retailers should have a new machine in February, It's called ISE and will be well worth looking at.
As to the tumble drier, vented ones are cheaper and less trouble than condensing ones. Can't really recommend one make over another, not much in them, simpler the better.
I too have a Whirlpool dishwasher and find it to be one of the best ones I've ever had. It easily beats the Indesit, Zanussi and Bosch machines I've had.
It's easy to use, easy to work on and has been extremely reliable.

I have just retired lately as a brown and white goods tech although I have only done white goods for a couple of years we only serviced hotpoint and whirlpool and I must tell you the call ratio was about five hotpoint breakdowns to one whirlpool. I have a whirlpool myself and the they are far superior motor, component, and cosmetic wise. Of course sods law you will probably buy one and well you can guess

I didn't read the budget bit, yes unfortunately a meile would not fit into the price bracket. Meile IMHO probably make the best domestic washing machines around, but who on earth designs the outsides, Pleasing on the eye they are not!

We bought a Candy washing machine 7½ years ago which gets alot of use (family of 4) It only cost around £200 and is still going strong (touch wood ), this was bought to replace a previous Candy which lasted years.

We also bought a Candy dishwasher in 1990, it was still going strong when it was left in our previous house as part of the sale.

I would avoid Candy, I reckon there total PANTS.

Hotpoint white goods here, and still strong after 7 years.

Miele or Bosch me thinks, better a nice secondhand Miele than a new B**KO
