Hi, first time posting here!

Be grateful for some advice..

I’m currently doing a renovation on a property, some of the work has been left half done by some trades and I just wanted to check this.

A line has been fitted for washing machine waste in a small utility.

1. Do I need anything on the top of this pipe so the waste pipe can be attached or do you just use the u shaped drain hose guide?

2. There’s an awful smell coming through the pipe when the toilet in the next room is used. Do I just need to pour some water down the pipe to stop the smell? I presume that’s one of the purposes of the ‘P trap’.

I know the pipe needs trimming down so it can be used

Appreciate any responses!
