what does a typical washing machine weigh?

mine has broken down so I am collecting the other from the house I am selling, a chum has agreed to help me load it into my hatchback.

I found a figure of 76kg for a washer online, are they really that heavy? It is an ordinary Bosch front-loader.

Yep between 70 and 80 is about right.

Non-commercial Miele washers weigh in at almost 100kg. No wonder you end up with a bad back in this game

It depends on the capacity of the machine, and top-loading models usually weigh less than front-loading washers.

Yep I agree on the weights mentioned. they are also fitted usually to the top so is awkward top heavy weight for carrying.
