washing machne getting stuck on the filling cycle.

our washing machine is acting wierd. if i start a load it will just continue to run water but never fill. it will do this until i manually turn the dial to the next cycle. any ideas???

Make and model would be a great help. Also more info. Is the drain hose into a stand pipe? Any error codes?

and yes the drain hose goes into a standing pipe that like 2-3 feet above ground

make sure the drain hose isn't too far into the stand pipe. It could be syphoning the water out as it's coming in.
If the drain pump is running all the time it may have an anti flood device in the base. i.e. flooded base - drain water.
