Wasning Machine fills with dirty water

Hi
When not in use my washing machine fills with dirty, smelly water. It is normally switched on at the wall, but the appliance is switched off.
Any ideas?

If the washing machine waste runs into your sink trap, it could be a symptom of a blocked sink trap, with the water taking the easy way out, especially if the hose is not routed tight to the bottom of the worktops (keeping the hose as high as possible forms a trap to stop water flowing back from the sink).

Unless you waste is routed like this it will syphon back into you appliance.
