Hi all,

Im converting my bathroom in my bungalow into a new hall way by putting in a door where the window is. The new bathroom will be upstairs directly above where it is now. The big main waste pipe is in the way of the new opening. I want to move the pipe out of sight so it runs down inside the house and out below ground level. I have dug my hole where this is to be, but what i want to know how is best to break out through the engineering brick wall and connect up to the waste again? is there any regs i should be following? thanks

A 127mm diamond core drill is just big enough for some 4" waste fittings but not for most of them, so some chasing out ius also required. A pipe fits through easiy, but you will probably be sinking the lebow or branch of a t into the wall.

With engineering brick core drilling can take a very long time, so stitch drilling a series of holes in a circle and then knocking **** out of it is quicker.

Either way your decision would be swayed by what equipment you own, and or hire costs. You would need at the very least an sds drill and at most hire of a core drill.

The other problem with core drilling is that it is very unlikely you will come out bang on target, so the hole will require modification with a lump hammer and cold chisel anyway.

All in all it's run of the mill plumbing work, guranteed to upset folk with nice twee houses.

Thanks Paul,

Yes ive got access to my works sds drill. The problem is the pipe will run down a new wall which is being built and the foundations have been dug for this to and will be filled with concrete this week so i need to get the pipe work in below ground level asap, before the cement truck comes! so im trying to get my head around this.
