can you tell me if i need to put a trap at the bottom of my washing machine waste stand pipe or just a bend and through the wall

Either but a trap will be easier to work with help if the pipe gets blocked.

Surely a trap is required regardless of whether the outlet is direct to drain or gulley routed? Smells?
