Went to order some exterior Dulux weathershield Masonry gloss paint today at a local trade shop only to be told that all paint manufactures are moving to water based paint due to new regulations, is this true, Dulux web site states that this particular paint is solvent based, girl said that the web site was not up to date?

She's talking out of her harris mate. There is a good range of oil and water based paints available from Dulux and others for exterior and interior applications. Dulux weathershield isn't a bad drop of gear in oil based form, sikkens XD is the best

Just to add not quite sure what you mean by masonry gloss paint? If you want oil based for masonry i'd suggest a pliolite.

Hi dcdec i am looking for masonry gloss paint, all local shops claim that you cannot get gloss paint for masonary, is that pliolite paint in a gloss finish?

She's talking rubbish.

Dulux all seasons masonry paint is a QD gloss.

Okay its back to the drawing board, at £92 for 4.5lts it will be crazy price to complete the job, anyone here know is the Sandtex smooth masonry paint a matte finish or a light sheen finish?

If you want a slight sheen and a tough finish you could always use Little Greene eggshell (either oil based or acrylic).

I believe the Sandtex is quite flat in comparison.

Bedec do a good range of quality exterior paints. Looking at their site the barn paint comes in a semi gloss and can be used on concrete so i should think render would be ok. their masonry paint which is excellent and my personal first choice comes in a satin finish. their MSP can also be used on masonry and that does come in a gloss finish but not sure about cost. Could be worth giving them a call, i've heard they're very helpful.

dcdec thanks for your info, but we dont have any local stockists of Bedec paint.
