I have an unvented central heating system ie. hot water tank with expansion tank in the airing cupboard, no cold water tank in the loft. I have noticed recently that water is often coming out of the overflow pipe which comes from somewhere in the airing cupboard to the nearest outside wall. It seems to stop when i run the hot water for a bit. I recently tapped into the system to add in another towel rail into a new wetroom. Could I have somehow upset the balance of the system, or is this just a coincidence. After I'd finished I made sure the system pressure guage on the bolier was back up to 2.5-3 bar, but I'm not sure what else I need to do.

you have the pressure set too high, the dial should read between 1 and 1.5 bar with the system cold, if it goes over 2.5 bar with the system hot the expansion vessel may need recharging/replacing.

if its a mega flow theres a procedure to re-establish internal expansion vessel
but to be safe get unvented qualified engineer out.
