Water filter for toilet cistern?

In our summer house the water supply is from a rainwater tank, which has some grit in it. This invariably clogs up the diaphragm on the cistern input, resulting in water flowing down the pan continually. Is there some kind of small filter I can fit to the pipe to stop the grit? I've done a google search but can only find nautical items for yacht water pumps, which I'm not sure would work.

not that I know off to be honest mate why not make one with some pipe and chicken wire?

Try here look at the third item from the bottom, it's a dirt seperator and has a discharge valve too for cleaning. They are well built (and expensive, but they work). This is not a filter with an element to get blocked. Alternatively, you could use a strainer, but it might pass small particles.
