From what I have read in other threads, the "water feature" on tile cutters seems to create more problems than it solves. But am I right in thinking this is a necessary evil to suppress excess dust? I guess its better to cut tiles outside if possible really

The main requirment for water is to cool down and lubricate the blade.

Try doing a couple dry, then with water, there is a big difference in the way they cut.

Don't overfill with water and keep the guard down, the water problem can be kept to a minimium.

I have been cutting a lot of tiles recently & still have a lot more to cut. I deal with the water mess by putting the tile cutter on a dust sheet on the floor, the water stayed localised that way, & I tried without water. You need the water.

is it only me thats cuts tiles outside i.e. driveway water not a problem,.

Too much hassle to go outside every time you need to cut a tile. I cut inside but use some old towels and dust sheets to work on. The dust sheets also keep all the tile chips so not much clearing up afterward. The water is not much of a problem at all. A bit gets on my leg when freshly filled but after a few tiles the water level goes down. The only problem with water is when it becomes muddy and the base of the cutter gets silted up which means a good clean out.
