Water leaking from ceiling

A builder has just been to look at my house and says that damp in the loft space is causing the water that is leaking onto our ceiling.

The ceilings are very high and I'd say a third of the ceiling area is tight to the roof. So it slopes following the roof profile then flattens out at the top. What do you call that kind of construction?

The builder has no real solution to the problem. Can anyone here suggest anything please? Thanks.

That's a lot of condensation if it's presenting itself as water dripping through a ceiling or is it just staining?

Has he inspected the roof for missing/broken slate/tile, chimney flashings or valley damage?

Has the ingress of water/staining been a very recent problem?

If it is condensation fit soffit/facia and ridge vents and possibly air bricks.
Unfortunately condensation can be a result of our need to over insulate.

Dipping terrypin. Two rooms front and back of house.

There are no chimneys or valleys. It's an end terrace (Circa1980's). Can't see any broken tiles but it could be that. It first happened after the strong storms last year. We had a roofer out to it and thought that was the end of it.

Hadn't thought of air bricks. Could do that. Am thinking now that maybe the gap down between the joists is blocked and could possibly clear it out from above. Below might be impossible. Will have to see.

How do these sealed houses manage the moisture?

ok, two rooms.
Maybe condensation running down the felt has perished it?

Get the roof checked before looking at ventilation.
Then if nothing untoward on the roof go for ventilation as previously stated.

Airbricks alone will not cure condensation, you'll need to ventilate top and bottom of the roof.

Have you got water tanks in the roof space? A frequent cause of the amount of moisture in a roof space is from an over heating cylinder or a heating system that is pumping over.

Unlikely to be condensation if its that bad
No condensation before? Suddenly started after a storm?
Surely its a leak

Front and back leaks, check the ridge also.
