I recently bought a water level to aid levelling the sub base for a patio and the soil level in the garden. The water seems to go in ok, but when the two ends are placed next to each other the levels are different   . There are no kinks in the pipe so I am totally confused. I guess there may be air in the pipe or maybe gravity is broken.

Does anyone have any tips on how this tool can use his new tool properly.

both valve must be open for it to work but leave one end shut place the open end at the level you want.
hold the other end slightly lower than the level you need to be at walk to the point you want to level still an inch lower than you think then slowly open the valve watching the water level if it shoots down below the mark lower your end if water comes out the top raise your end when you get equilibrium tighten the valve check your datum end if nesisery top up level by twice the drop return to other end open valve slowly it should now be level.
but off course check the other end and adjust as nessesery

Thanks for the advice.

I think my level is a bit more basic than the one you describe but it seems to have done the trick. That and getting all the air out the tube beforehand
