hi guys i need to level our extension floor 5.5 "so it becomes level with our kitchen floor ,at present our kitchen has a door way leading to the extension so a rotating laser is know good but i was thinking of a water level as they can go round corners :D but my question is are they any good a reading 5.5 " off the floor .many thanks in advance

you use the water level to set a datum line at say 1m from the kitchen floor, then you mark the same line round the walls of the extension and measure down 1m. this gives you the same height as the floor in the kitchen..
 
Yes, water levels are as accurate as you will ever get.

Just Google "Water level" and you will find all the info you need including how to make one.

My water level seems to show that my laser can be around 1cm out over a 7 metre distance, so water level every time for me.

My laser is a cheapo £80 one, so relies on the human eye to set the spirit levels on it. The water level was around £10 and has graduated viles at either end.
 
Are we talking about setting up a Hadron collider or some small domestic building project?

Guys, get real eh!

Building products, building procedures and human nature will make a mockery of 10 lousy millimetres believe me.
