Water meter leaking

They came today, did a water test and don’t think it’s drinking supply, could be ground water, any ideas

I had that some years ago after they changed the water meter for a new one. The plastic meter just screws into a plastic base so I think they cracked the base. The meter reader emptied the meter hole and it filled ups again within a week, reported it to be told it's not a problem and probably ground water as above. usually within a fortnight it would have water leaking out of the chamber cap. reported it several times over the metering period, when the next bill arrived I rang them up and told them if they expect me to pay the bill then they have to sort out the water leak first - That certainly focused their minds - they arrived and changed the meter, base and meter chamber within 7 working days.

Need to see how it goes, they were pretty helpful to be honest

Why are you worried? If it's not drinking water, it's ground water, the end

If you're concerned that it's a leak you're paying for, note the reading, shut your water off at the stop tap overnight, tell other house occupants to expect eg the toilet not to flush more than once, and then read the value again in the morning. If the meter's moved appreciably, sort it. If it hasn't, don't worry.

A thousand litres of water is something like 3 quid. If it's leaking a litre a day, it's £1 a year; only you can decide how much you're willing to pay for a leak before it's worth the upheaval of digging the meter up
