The water pipes rattle and vibrate at the far end of our house (garage and apartment above garage) when water (hot and cold) is shut off in the main part of the house.
What could cause that? Any suggestions for remedy?
PIpes should always be in proper clips so they can't rattle. If they're impossible to get at, a "shock arrester" would help. It's a small pressure vessel with air in it which can absorb the shock of the water stopping quickly.
