Just moved into a 1950s house. Heavy rain last night so went to check the loft and found water running down the outside of the chimney breast within the loft.

Can't quite see up to the top of where the water is coming in but assume there is some lead flashing on the outside that joins the chimney stack to the roof tiles and this has failed?

The felt is in pretty poor condition so guess rain has found a hole in it near the apex?

Anything I can do or get a roofer in?

Thanks,

Isley

looks like the flashing as you say, best to get a roofer!. ;)

Hi. It may well have been happening for years, but never noticed as it has not soaked down to ceiling level. The air in the loft dries it before that point. It may well be the lead flashing needing dressing and repointing or water penertration into chimney stack bypassing flashing. I have a video that tries to demonstrate the problem associated with leaking chimneys. Chimney dpc tray on http://justlead.co.uk/news/Page-2.html it may be food for thought. Good Luck
