Leak from airing cupboard through to kitchen ceiling, waiting to dry out...see attached.
The board seems ok, just damp, no warping, no water retention (poked some holes with screwdriver).
Some questions and advice please:

1. How long to dry out...is a week OK ?

2. I was going to apply zinger cover stain over the stained area only and then deluxe trade ultra matt over the whole ceiling.
But I saw someone doing something similar and after a few months the cover stain was visible as dark patches.

Thanks
Phil

Around a week to dry out. Depends on air movement. Heat.

Zinsser BIN is better on water stains. Coverstain is much thicker. Longer curing time.
I warm a spray can of BIN and coat stain if not too big. Very cost effective. Then after 4 hours to be sure its dry emulsion over

As suggested open the windows and get the heating on for a few days .....or a dehumidifier

I would use thinned cover stain or thinned oil undercoat or zinser bin as suggested

Give it a few days after first coat of emulsion to see if it's being held back

The emulsion may also take time to dry onto the oil based stain blocks

Once it looks blocked ......finish with final coat of emulsion

If you have zinser cover stain I would use that ......after the stain has had time to dry and there is no water hanging about

If it's in a tin partly used just add a desert spoon of white spirit .....mix it thoroughly to ease it ......then put two coats on making sure you go over the edges of the stain by a few inches

Leave 3 hours between coats then overnight before coating with emulsion....... its recommended to leave a week ......but I think overnight is OK and it's never failed me

If you are going to use other stain blocks then the advice is different
