Hi, new to the site and in need of help! Recently bought my first place and am in the middle of modernising/renovating it. Complete ripped the bathroom apart back to brick (or concrete in my case) took the floor up and ceiling down. Put a plywood floor back down and turned it into a wetroom. I have the floor down and gradient correct for the drainage, next is the tanking, I've read so many different things on tanking my head is fit to burst! I know bal is meant to be 'the one' when it comes to tiling products but I've come across aquaseal tanking kits and they cover more squareage (7.5m2) for roughly the same price. I'm putting homelux matting on the walls and floor and I need to tank roughly 14m2. So the question is is aquaseal just as good as bal WP1 and would I just be paying for the bal name?
I've have also been reading through the forum about tiling onto different substrates. The walls are block and concrete, they have plaster on which has been on there for decades, would I be best knocking the plaster off and going straight onto the block/concrete or just sbr the walls and go straight onto them, I'm using a floor tile on the wall so slightly heavier I imagine? There's is also one section of wall in the corner that is quite rough and uneven where the airing cupboard and water tank was, this is wherethe walk in shower is going now, i need to go over that section of wall to level it out but obviously I don't want plaster on the wall as it takes less weight, would a bonding coat or sand and cement mix render be better to put on the wall?? Sprry this is so long winded!!Any help with this would greatly appreciated!!
Thanks
Sean.
