Waterproofing behind tiles?

Hello. I do not really post here but I do read and often don't feel like I need to post.

Anyhow, I was recommended to try the BAL waterproof kit system which sells for an extortionate amount in various places including Tops Tiles etc.

I wondered if there was an equally good alternative like there often is. For example a sent of space wiper blades in Halfords costs you anything from £25-£45. From GSF you get a better product at £6.50.

Might this be the case here and what would you recommend. £70 for what appears to be waterproof BAL paint seems steep.

Its a bathroom wall for a shower into a bath.

The BAL kit is good and some like it when they use the BAL tile adhesive (I, perhaps naively, felt happier using matching brands). I have goggled the BAL kit for less than £60 inc VAT and shipping.

Otherwise many use the Mapei Shower Waterproofing Kit, which is less then £50 inc VAT.

Depends on the wall make up? Plasterboard, plaster, bare brick etc?

If your walls are solid, there's really no need for all these expensive gimmicks. If your bath is fitted correctly and your tiles are fixed and grouted properly along with a good sealant, the whole thing will last for many years. One common mistake made by DIY tillers (no offence to anyone) is to grout between the bath and tiles before masticking, also in the corner when there is a shower. This will crack over time and let water in. Just a good sealant such as Dow Corning will be better.

I have used the Dunlop kit for.many years and find it excellent

BAL is extortionate even with our trade terms and there are other superior products available.
Adhesive is perfect example as most tilers will have a firm favourite and know how it works for them as well as drying and workability times etc
