I am about to replace several damaged ridge tiles (1 inch thick red clay), which appear to have suffered frost damage (spalling). The tiles are 15 years old, and I presume the rest of the ridge tiles will suffer similar damage over the coming years. I was therefore intending to seal the new and existing ridge tiles whilst I am up on the roof. I have used silicone based waterproofers before, and they work well but only for a limited time ( I don't want to have to go up on the roof every few years to redo it). I was therefore considering using boiled linseed oil as a sealant ( thinned with white spirit and painted on). Any comments or (readily available) alternatives?
Thanks.
