Watts BT-WR02-HC RF receiver - clicking noise

Hi everyone,

Preparing for winter so have been sorting our central heating out over the past day or two. One bit that seems reluctant to fire back up again after the summer is our kitchen's underfloor heating. It's controlled via a Watts RF thermostat and a BT-WR02 receiver.

All looks fine with the thermostat - I raise the required temperature in the kitchen and its little flame symbol lights up to show it's requesting heat. But nothing happens at the boiler end.

The receiver, meanwhile, just sits there with its leftmost light illuminated. When I press the single control button to try to go through its modes or attempt a reset or an RF pairing (just in case the link has been lost), it makes a very loud and fast clicking sound and the middle light flashes in sync with it. If I press the button again, this clicking increases in frequency and the leftmost light flashes as well. The RF light on the right does nothing apart from the occasional green flash.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions? My hunch is that a relay or somesuch has gone kaput and that the receiver will need replacing. Incidentally, it's linked to a Polypipe master unit that has a green power light but no other lights like the valve or boiler illuminated at any time (I'm guessing this would only happened if the receiver correctly relayed the request for hot water to the flooring).

Any suggestions or advice gratefully received.

Kind regards to all,

John

It sounds likely :(

If the receiver has been powered on, but unused for the summer, it may be worth completely isolating it's power for a while. Sometimes a 'hard reset' can bring an appliance out of an invalid state.

Also, if you were comfortable removing the cover (with the power isolated), you should be able to (temporarily, as there would be no stat) 'link out' the BT-WR02 - this will at least let you know if the underfloor heating is still operational.
