I'm planning on converting the space under my staircase to a WC with just a toilet and a sink. From the research I've done I understand this does not class as a "special location" under part P so from an electrical point of view shouldn't be too much of a problem (there is already lighting in there, I would just need to put a new light in and move the existing switch).
One thing I'm not sure about is whether there are any rules regarding proximity of water pipes to the point at which the mains enters the property. Adjacent to the space I intend to put the WC is a small cubby hole (right at the bottom of the steps) where the electricity meter is situated. This is isolated from the planned WC area by a stud wall, but in distance terms is only about 350mm from where the water feed to the toilet would be.
Can't see this being a problem give that the spaces are separated, but would be interested to know if there are any regulations related to this?
Also, not an electrical question at all, but does anybody know if there are any specific headroom requirements for something like this? Obviously I will design it to make sure you can stand up next to the toilet but not sure if there was a mandatory minimum height requirement?
