The thermostat in our hall is set to 25C yet the most we achieve when the boiler is set to maximum at 6 is a heat throughout the house in this very cold weather (presently 0.0C outside) of 18C.

We have an old 4 bed Victorian semi with mostly double glazing (all but one window); 10 radiators (of which 4 are doubles); and a fully lagged roof. We only have cavity wall insulation in the more modern extension as the age of the house limits what we can do here.

The pipework is microbore.

Our boiler is an Ideal Concord W gas boiler WRS255Awith an original output of 55000BTU. The system was power flushed 3 years ago and we had a new heat exchanger 10 years back.

Something not working? :(

From the model, 255, I would assume he means 16Kw, around 55,000 btu

theres an often overlooked and disregarded but not outdated technology, to reduce heatloss.

big thick heavy curtains and draft sealing.

this is often supplimented by additional technology, called the jumper.

crickey when I was a kid, we used to write in the frost/ice on the insides of the lounge window.

0ne coal fire and immersion heater in the whole brand new house
